After my eldest son was born I waivered a bit in my approach to natural health. I suffered with ill-health that natural approaches couldn’t rectify. I succumbed to antibiotics. There was an overlap with breastfeeding my son of just a few days, but those few days were enough to alter his gut flora for the rest of his life. Food intolerances were exacerbated and reflux began.

The poor boy was unsettled. We used calpol to help him through what seemed like awful teething pain. He even stopped eating for a few weeks! I now suspect that this was due to either huge sensory issues or gastro-distress. It’s possible that administering calpol regularly affected his liver function, disturbing his health further.

I decided for the rest of his childhood I would make every attempt to help support his health naturally. Since gathering more information on our family I realise that with heterozygous MTHFR and pyroluria it is more than just a preference …. it’s a necessity.

I now have two more children and I try to use natural methods to help them overcome the health trials of childhood. I’ve compiled a quick look cheat sheet on Natural First Aid – download it if you think it might help you too. It’s perfect for helping you to support health without medication.
